Lost Odyssey is a truly next-generation RPG created by acclaimed artists Takehiko Inoue (Japanese manga creator, made famous by Slam Dunk), Kiyoshi Shigematsu (a famous Japanese novelist) and Nobuo Uematsu (Japanese music composer, known for creating the music for the FINAL FANTASY series of games). The game is produced by Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the original FINAL FANTASY series.
Though many of you may not be familiar with Lost Odyssey, it certainly sounds like an interesting game, and one of the Xbox 360's more unique prospects. Along with Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey is a role playing game being developed by Mistwalker and published by Microsoft Game Studios. Lost Odyssey will be one of the first Japanese-developed RPGs to release for a Microsoft console since the original Xbox first hit the market. Needless to say, this is a very good thing.
However, when exactly gamers will be able to get their hands on the Lost Odyssey is a matter less exciting, since nobody knows when it's coming out. It's listed as shipping at the end of this month on ebgames.com, and listed as an October release on gamestop.com. A representative for Microsoft told us it definitely will not be coming out at the end of this month in North America, and could not even ballpark when it may finally release. So, like with many of the Xbox 360's titles, Lost Odyssey is still in release date limbo.
From what we know so far, Lost Odyssey tells the tale of Kaim, a man who's been alive for 1000 years. He'll be joined by Seth, a woman with the same fate, and journey through a world in the midst of a magical sort of industrial revolution. Memory will play a role in the game, as Japanese author Kiyoshi Shigematsu was tasked with writing 1000 years worth of memories for Kaim. In the end, it worked out to be around 50 short stories worth of content, which, of course, is quite a bit.
